Social commentator and critic, Abubakar Isah, has criticised the response of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) to concerns surrounding relief efforts for victims of the Mokwa flood incident.
Reacting after an interview featuring the agency’s Public Relations Officer on Capacity Media Trust Radio, Isah defended the circulation of a controversial list linked to the flood response and dismissed suggestions that those involved acted unlawfully.
According to him, the list exposed what he described as lapses in the handling of relief and intervention efforts by relevant authorities, including emergency officials and local stakeholders.
He also reacted to comments attributed to NSEMA indicating that the agency was investigating the source of the leaked document and individuals who circulated it online, with possible legal action under consideration.
Isah maintained that citizens have the right to demand transparency and accountability in emergency response efforts and insisted that concerns surrounding assistance for affected communities should be addressed.
He further stated that those criticised by the agency were prepared to respond through lawful means if legal action was pursued.
Meanwhile, NSEMA had announced plans to begin activities for the construction of a site intended for flood victims in Mokwa
