Muhammad Nami, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Niger State, has fulfilled his pledge to donate ₦15 million and 38 motorcycles to families of 37 artisanal miners who died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The donation was made through the Niger South Foundation, a non-governmental organisation established by Nami, according to a press statement announcing the intervention.
The items were presented to the beneficiaries by a delegation led by Dahiru Danhazami Abdul, Nami's deputy governorship candidate, who represented him at the event.
Speaking during the presentation, Abdul expressed sympathy for the bereaved families and urged them to remain strong as they cope with the loss of their loved ones.
He said the donation was intended to demonstrate solidarity with the affected families and provide practical assistance during their period of hardship.
In a separate interview after the presentation, the Chairman of the Niger South Foundation, Dr Muhammed Shabba, said the organisation remained committed to supporting vulnerable people facing difficult circumstances.
Shabba explained that the donation reflected the foundation's concern for the welfare of the affected families and its efforts to ease their financial difficulties.
The ₦15 million and 38 motorcycles are expected to provide assistance to the beneficiaries as they continue to deal with the consequences of the incident.
The donation follows the deaths of 37 artisanal miners while in NSCDC custody in Niger State. Further details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths and any official findings were not provided in the statement.
