NANISS Constitutes Committee to Mobilise Niger Students for 2027 Elections

The National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS), National Headquarters, has constituted a committee to coordinate election sensitisation, mobilisation and monitoring activities among Niger State students ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

According to a statement signed by NANISS National President, Comr. Ismail Abdulmalik Danladi, the committee will focus on civic education, voter sensitisation, lawful participation and monitoring of election-related activities involving students across tertiary institutions in the state.
NANISS said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that students and other young people are adequately informed about their civic responsibilities and encouraged to participate peacefully and responsibly in the electoral process.

The committee's mandate includes conducting voter and civic education, encouraging eligible students to obtain and maintain the necessary electoral credentials in line with applicable guidelines, and promoting peaceful participation.

It will also discourage violence, hate speech, intimidation and electoral misconduct, while monitoring election-related developments involving students and reporting relevant issues to NANISS leadership.

The association said the committee will work with NANISS chapters, student associations, campus structures, Students' Union Governments (SUGs) and other relevant stakeholders across tertiary institutions in Niger State.

Institutions listed for the coordination include Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai; Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna); Niger State University of Education; Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru; Federal Polytechnic, Bida; Niger State College of Education; and other approved tertiary institutions in the state.

NANISS said designated student representatives will be established across the institutions to coordinate sensitisation activities and report to the national committee.

The association stressed that its structures would remain non-partisan and would not endorse or impose any political party or candidate on Niger State students.

It further stated that individual students retain the right to make independent political choices, while NANISS would focus on promoting informed, peaceful and responsible participation in the democratic process.

The association also urged students to reject violence, misinformation, intimidation and political division during the electoral period and called on political parties, candidates, support groups and election-related organisations to respect the independence of student unions and comply with applicable laws and institutional regulations.
