The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has sealed the headquarters of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) in Kaduna over alleged outstanding statutory tax liabilities.
The enforcement action, reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, October 5, 2026, followed an order issued by the NRS Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji. A non-compliance notice was placed at the entrance of the company’s premises.
According to the notice, the company’s owners and operators allegedly failed to fulfil their statutory tax obligations despite previous notifications from the revenue authority.
The NRS said the action was taken pursuant to the Nigeria Tax Act, the Nigeria Tax Administration Act and other applicable tax legislation.
The revenue service warned that any officer or agent of the company found violating tax regulations could face prosecution and other penalties prescribed by law. It also cautioned against unauthorised interference with the enforcement exercise, including the removal of the sealed notice without approval.
Taxpayers seeking clarification or wishing to resolve outstanding obligations were directed to contact the NRS Debt Management and Enforcement Department in Abuja or visit the nearest enforcement office.
An official of Kaduna Electric, who spoke to NAN on condition of anonymity, said the notice was posted on Friday. The official added that customers were asked to leave the premises because there were no staff available to attend to them.
The development comes amid broader regulatory and financial challenges facing Kaduna Electric.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) recently issued Interim Order No. NERC/2026/086, dissolving the company’s Board of Directors. NERC cited severe operational inefficiencies, failure to meet required capital expenditure targets and cumulative market debt exceeding ₦456.5 billion as reasons for the intervention.
Under the regulatory order, NERC appointed an interim management team led by Abubakar Umar Hashidu as Administrator to oversee the company’s operations in Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states while restructuring measures are undertaken.
