Rivers Police Suspend Abuloma DPO Over Alleged Renovation of Outpost by Suspected Cultists

The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the affected police outpost of their duties pending an investigation into allegations that suspected cultists renovated the facility.

The disciplinary action follows a trending social media report and circulating video alleging that suspected cultists visited the Abuloma Police Outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the renovation.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Blessing Karborlo, the command condemned any action or association capable of undermining the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

The command said police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, adding that they must not become platforms for criminal groups to seek public recognition, legitimacy or influence.

Under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, the command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on criminality and conduct capable of eroding public confidence in the police.

The command said the investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the renovation and verify the allegations.

Among the issues to be examined are the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the project, the officers who authorised or approved it, whether due procedures were followed, and whether any police personnel breached professional standards or compromised the integrity of the force.

The command also said it would determine the extent of any police officers' involvement in the project.

While acknowledging the importance of legitimate community support in improving police facilities, the statement referenced relevant provisions of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 concerning gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.

However, the command stressed that such contributions must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security.

It warned that unprofessional conduct, compromise and improper associations with criminal elements would not be tolerated, urging all officers to uphold discipline, integrity and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

The command said the investigation would determine the facts surrounding the incident and establish whether any misconduct occurred.
