President Bola Tinubu has said he will not attend every campaign event organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election, stressing the need to balance political activities with his responsibilities as Nigeria’s president.
Tinubu made the statement on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he urged members to take the party’s message to Nigerians across the country.
The President said the demands of the campaign should not distract him from governance, noting that the country required his attention, particularly in managing its economic responsibilities.
He asked council members to excuse his absence from some campaign events, citing the need to meet financial obligations and fulfil the government’s international commitments.
Tinubu also emphasised the importance of attracting investors willing to make long-term investments in Nigeria, saying such investments would contribute to the country’s future and benefit younger generations.
Despite his decision not to attend every campaign event, the President assured Nigerians that he would continue to engage directly with them while the campaign council coordinated mobilisation across states and local government areas.
He described the council’s inauguration as a renewed commitment to Nigerians and said its responsibility included communicating the administration’s vision, record and policy agenda to voters nationwide.
Tinubu also commended APC members for completing the party’s congresses, saying the party had overcome concerns about possible internal divisions during the process.
He credited members for their participation from the ward level to the national leadership, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to work together ahead of the 2027 general election.
