Popular Kannywood actress Nafeesat, known for her role as Maimuna in the Hausa television drama Kaddara, has generated widespread reactions online after expressing her personal views on marriage.
In a video circulating on social media, the actress questioned why some women prioritise marriage after years of building careers and achieving financial independence.
According to her, she does not consider marriage a personal goal and said she could not imagine being under a man’s control.
“A woman works hard, builds her life and wealth, and then goes under someone else’s control because of marriage. I don’t see the reason for that,” she said.
Nafeesat also challenged the belief that marriage and childbearing automatically guarantee support or remembrance later in life, arguing that family relationships extend beyond having children.
Her remarks sparked mixed reactions across social media, with critics saying public figures should be cautious about the messages they share, while supporters defended her right to express personal opinions.
