Aliyu A. Kure Calls for Responsible Content Sharing at IBBUL Media Literacy Session

Lapai TV founder joins experts and student leaders to discuss fact-checking and combating misinformation

 The Founder of Lapai TV, Aliyu A. Kure, has urged students and young media practitioners to embrace fact-checking and responsible content sharing as critical tools for combating misinformation in the digital age.

Kure made the call during a panel discussion on "Verification, Fact-Checking, and Responsible Content Sharing", held as part of the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) component of the Campus Reporter Journalism Clinic at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL).

The session brought together student leaders, media professionals, and institutional representatives to examine the growing challenge of misinformation and the role of young people in promoting credible and accurate information.

Speaking during the discussion, Kure stressed the importance of verifying information before publishing or sharing it, noting that social media users now play a significant role in shaping public opinion and influencing public discourse.

He encouraged participants to develop a culture of verification and critical thinking, emphasizing that responsible information sharing is essential to building informed and trustworthy communities.

Other panelists at the event included the President of the Students' Union Government (SUG), Alhaji Baba Shehu; Senior Information Officer of IBBUL, Ibrahim Suleiman; President of the University Correspondents Chapel (UCJ), Beauty Mbasti; and Special Adviser to the SUG Women Leader, Fatima Zahra Yahya.

The discussion was moderated by Lois Ugbede Achile, Assistant Editor at Dubawa, who guided conversations on the impact of misinformation on campus communities and strategies for promoting media literacy among young people.

Participants were encouraged to critically evaluate information before sharing it and to use digital platforms responsibly to support the dissemination of credible and verified content.

The Campus Reporter Journalism Clinic is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen media and information literacy among students and equip them with practical skills for navigating today's rapidly evolving information landscape.
