Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has called for peace among communities in Rafi Local Government Area following a recent communal clash between Fulani and Kamuku groups that claimed lives and destroyed property.
The governor made the appeal during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Kagara, where he met with traditional leaders and community representatives as part of efforts to restore peace in the area.
Governor Bago described the incident as unfortunate and sympathised with families of those affected. He said individuals identified in connection with the violence should report to the Police Headquarters in Minna or face arrest, stressing that no one is above the law.
He also warned against actions capable of fueling further tensions and urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and lawful conflict resolution.
As part of measures to prevent future disputes, the governor directed that land transactions within the emirate should receive government clearance through the Emirate Council.
To support those affected by the crisis, Governor Bago announced a donation of ₦1 million each to families of those killed, injured victims receiving treatment, and residents whose houses were destroyed during the clash.
He further urged the Emirate Council to promote inclusiveness in local leadership structures.
The Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Ahmad Garba Attahiru II, appreciated the governor's visit and pledged to work with relevant stakeholders to prevent a recurrence of the crisis.
Representatives of both the Kamuku and Fulani communities also welcomed the intervention and expressed commitment to peaceful coexistence.
The communal clash occurred about two weeks ago in parts of Rafi Local Government Area, prompting government and community-led efforts to restore peace and stability.
