Army Announces Major Shake-Up of Senior Commanders

The Nigerian Army has announced a major redeployment of senior officers, affecting General Officers Commanding (GOCs), brigade commanders, commandants of military institutions, and principal staff officers across its formations.

The reshuffle, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, is aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and strengthening the Army’s response to emerging security challenges nationwide.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said the postings cut across operational theatres, training institutions, and key administrative offices.

Among the appointments, Major General WM Dangana was named General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, while Major General EI Okoro was appointed General Officer Commanding 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE.

At Army Headquarters, Major General JR Lar was appointed Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola assumes office as Acting Military Secretary (Army).

In a move reflecting the growing importance of technology in national defence, Major General SA Emmanuel was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command.

The reshuffle also affected military training institutions, with Major General KE Chigbu appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General SD Makolo named Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, and Brigadier General U Ahmad appointed Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.

The Army said the redeployments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership across operational, training, and administrative formations, improve combat readiness, and enhance the service's capacity to address the country's security challenges.
