Fresh concerns have emerged over the alleged diversion of relief materials and funds donated to victims of the devastating Mokwa flood, prompting calls for an independent investigation into the handling of humanitarian assistance.
The allegations, which have generated public debate, suggest that some relief items and financial donations intended for flood victims may not have reached the rightful beneficiaries.
Reacting to the development, the President-General of the Community Association for Grassroots Transformation (CAGRAT), Engr. Muhammadu Dagaci, called on the Niger State Government to establish an independent fact-finding committee to investigate the claims.
According to him, the proposed committee should determine the whereabouts of donated funds and materials, identify anyone found culpable, and recommend appropriate actions in line with the law.
Dagaci warned that failure to thoroughly investigate the allegations could undermine public confidence in future humanitarian interventions and weaken trust in public institutions.
He stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and due process in the management of relief efforts, particularly during humanitarian emergencies.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and no official statement has yet been issued by the authorities responsible for the distribution of the relief materials.
The Mokwa flood disaster claimed lives, displaced thousands of residents, and destroyed homes and livelihoods, prompting donations and relief support from individuals and organizations across Nigeria and beyond.
