A former aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election for the Agaie-Lapai Federal Constituency of Niger State, Mallam Mu'awiyyah Yusuf Muye, has denied allegations that he disrespected Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, while expressing concerns over the conduct of the party's primary election.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa and Lapai TV, Muye clarified that his comments were solely directed at seeking justice regarding the outcome of the APC primary and should not be interpreted as an attack on Governor Bago or the leadership of the party.
He maintained that his grievance remains focused on what he described as irregularities in the primary election process, insisting that the will of delegates should be respected.
According to him, his appeal is not aimed at creating division within the party but at ensuring fairness and transparency.
"Our concern is simply that justice should prevail. We participated in the primary election and believe the process did not reflect the will of the delegates. We trust the party leadership and remain confident that a proper review will reveal the truth and restore the mandate given by the people," he said.
Muye further warned that delays in resolving complaints from aggrieved aspirants could create uncertainty and erode confidence among party members. He noted that some aspirants fear that prolonged delays may limit their legal options should they choose to challenge the outcome through the courts.
He, however, emphasized that his preference remains an internal resolution of the matter through the party's established mechanisms.
Responding to concerns raised by aggrieved aspirants, APC National Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, said the party is carefully reviewing all petitions submitted following the primaries.
According to him, allegations of irregularities require thorough investigation to ensure fairness to aspirants, the party and its supporters.
