The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshalls have dismantled a major illegal mineral trading hub in the M.I. Wushishi area of Minna, Niger State, leading to the arrest of 41 suspected illegal miners and mineral dealers.
The operation, carried out under the leadership of Commander Jibrin Muhammed, targeted unauthorized mineral trading activities that have reportedly flourished in the area in recent months.
According to the NSCDC, the raid was strategically conducted during a heavy downpour on Sunday night, enabling operatives to successfully dislodge illegal operators and disrupt illicit mineral transactions within the community.
Authorities noted that the growing illegal mining and mineral trading activities have not only contributed to environmental degradation but have also raised security concerns within the state.
Commander Muhammed described the operation as part of a sustained effort to sanitize the mining sector and ensure compliance with federal mining and environmental regulations.
He emphasized that the crackdown would continue across Niger State until all illegal mining sites and unauthorized mineral trading centres are identified and secured.
The Mining Marshalls also called for stronger collaboration with the Niger State Government and relevant stakeholders to enhance enforcement efforts, safeguard the nation's solid mineral resources, and improve government revenue generation from the mining sector.
The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria's mineral wealth and ensuring that all mining activities are conducted within the framework of the law.
