Popular social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has defended his recent remarks on Northern Nigeria, insisting that his comments were directed at political leaders rather than ordinary citizens of the region.
In a video released on his social media platforms, the influencer responded to criticism from several Northern content creators and commentators who reacted to his earlier statement that Northern Nigeria's challenges have contributed to the country's slow development.
According to him, the North's economic and social difficulties are largely the result of decades of political neglect, insecurity, and poor governance. He argued that Northern Nigerians are among the most hardworking and honest people in the country but have continued to suffer from poverty, insecurity, and limited access to quality education and economic opportunities.
VeryDarkMan criticized what he described as inadequate empowerment initiatives, stating that government interventions should focus on sustainable development, job creation, education, and security rather than temporary relief measures.
He further expressed concern over the impact of terrorism and banditry on farming communities across the region, noting that insecurity has disrupted agricultural activities that once served as major sources of livelihood for millions of residents.
The social commentator also questioned the continued proliferation of weapons among criminal groups operating in parts of Northern Nigeria and called for greater accountability from political leaders and security agencies in addressing the crisis.
While maintaining his position, VeryDarkMan emphasized that his criticism was not targeted at Northern Nigerians as a people but at political actors whom he accused of exploiting poverty and underdevelopment for political advantage.
He also rejected threats allegedly directed at him following his comments, insisting that public discourse should focus on finding solutions to the challenges facing the region rather than attacking individuals expressing their opinions.
