Mohammed Idris says ongoing investments reflect Federal Government's commitment to modernising public broadcasting and information infrastructure.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has commended the completion of a new television studio at the headquarters of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the ongoing renovation of the National Press Centre in Abuja, describing the projects as key milestones in the Federal Government's efforts to modernise Nigeria's public information infrastructure.
Speaking after inspecting the facilities on Monday in Abuja, Idris said the projects demonstrate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to strengthening government-owned media organisations and improving public service broadcasting across the country.
According to the minister, the newly completed television studio ranks among the best broadcast facilities in Nigeria and Africa. He said the investment forms part of a broader programme to upgrade the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), the Voice of Nigeria (VON), and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Idris also commended the management and staff of the NTA for supporting the transformation process, noting that the reforms extend beyond infrastructure to include improvements in content quality, professionalism, innovation, and staff capacity development.
He disclosed that the Federal Government is procuring modern broadcast equipment for NTA stations nationwide, alongside similar investments in other government-owned media organisations, to enhance public service broadcasting.
The minister further described the recently relaunched Digital Switch Over (DSO) programme as a significant step in the ongoing modernisation of Nigeria's broadcasting industry. He said the initiative, combined with investments in modern infrastructure, would contribute to the transformation of the country's public broadcasting system.
Idris also stated that the Tinubu administration remains committed to improving the welfare of workers in the information sector, stressing that investments in infrastructure are being matched with efforts to support personnel.
During the visit, the minister inspected the ongoing renovation of the National Press Centre at Radio House, Abuja. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and said the upgraded facility would serve as a modern media hub equipped with world-class facilities and high-speed internet connectivity to support journalists covering government activities and national events.
He urged the contractors handling the project to complete the renovation within the approved timeline, adding that he would return for a final inspection ahead of its commissioning.
The minister said the ongoing upgrades across government-owned media institutions are aimed at strengthening public communication, promoting credible information dissemination, and repositioning Nigeria's information sector to meet international standards.
