Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate terrorist abduction attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing 16 civilians, while also repelling a terrorist attack in Sokoto State.
The operations were carried out on Friday, August 28, 2026, as troops responded to distress calls and intelligence on terrorist activities in parts of the two states.
In Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 responded in the early hours of the day to reports of an attempted terrorist attack on a community.
The terrorists reportedly attempted to abduct residents but fled following the intervention of the troops. Four civilians were rescued, while troops remained in the area to prevent further attacks.
Later that day, troops responded to information about terrorist activities around Kwanoni Village in Tsafe Local Government Area.
According to the operational account, troops encountered terrorists who were attempting to abduct passengers travelling in two vehicles. The troops engaged the attackers in a firefight, forcing them to withdraw and abandon the intended victims.
All 12 passengers were rescued, while no casualty was reported among the troops during the operation.
In a separate incident in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, terrorists attacked around Jabo Village.
Troops responded and engaged the attackers, who were reportedly forced to withdraw from the area following the military response.
Two civilians sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and were evacuated for medical treatment. Troops subsequently maintained a presence in the area to prevent the attackers from regrouping or carrying out further attacks.
