Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has reportedly embraced Islam after reciting the Shahadah in Doha, Qatar.
The development was reported on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, by Qatari newspaper Al-Arab, with footage of the Nigerian defender reciting the two testimonies of faith subsequently circulating on social media.
Troost-Ekong, 33, currently plays for Qatar Stars League club Al-Ahli, having joined the side in January 2026 following his departure from Saudi Arabian club Al-Kholood.
The former Nigeria international earned 83 senior caps for the Super Eagles between 2015 and 2025 and served as captain during several major international competitions.
He captained Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where he was named Player of the Tournament after scoring three goals during the competition.
