The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has lifted its previous restriction on the replacement of candidates’ registered GSM numbers and changes to registered email addresses, with the revised policy taking effect on Monday, September 21, 2026.
The Board said the new arrangement is designed to assist candidates who have lost access to their registered SIM cards or email accounts while maintaining safeguards against fraud and unauthorised changes to candidates’ records.
According to a statement issued by JAMB’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the policy was reviewed following improvements in identity authentication and biometric verification systems.
JAMB had previously prohibited SIM swaps and email changes because of security concerns associated with altering candidates’ registered credentials. Under the revised arrangement, however, candidates can request the changes through a controlled verification process.
The Board said the service will be available only at designated JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) PTC/PRC Centres and State Offices where applicable.
Candidates seeking to use the service are required to provide their new GSM number and/or email address, as applicable, alongside a duly executed court affidavit, which must be scanned and uploaded during the process.
JAMB said candidates must first log into their e-Facility profiles and select the “SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment” option before paying the prescribed fee.
They are then expected to proceed to a designated centre, access the relevant Quicklink, provide their profile code or existing GSM number and undergo biometric verification.
After verification, candidates can select whether to change their GSM number, email address, or both, enter the new details and upload the required affidavit before completing the update.
The Board stressed that the SIM swap and/or email change facility can be used only once by each candidate.
JAMB also advised candidates to use the service only for genuine cases and warned against patronising unauthorised outlets.
