The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The President of the CBCN, Archbishop Prof. Leonard Bature Kawas, announced the position of the group on Wednesday in Abuja during the 2026 Synod of the CBCN and ICCABA at the National Christian Centre.
Kawas said the organisation had reviewed the activities and policies of the Tinubu administration and resolved to continue supporting the President through prayers, constructive counsel and public enlightenment.
He said the group had endorsed President Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, urged religious leaders to use their influence to promote peace, national unity and peaceful coexistence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Idris cautioned against portraying Nigeria’s security challenges as a religious war, stressing that terrorists and criminal groups attack Nigerians irrespective of their religion or background.
He urged Nigerians not to allow the 2027 elections to deepen divisions between Christians and Muslims, the North and South, or among the country’s various ethnic groups.
Representing President Tinubu at the event, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, commended Christian leaders for their contributions to peace and national unity.
Akume called for stronger collaboration between the government and religious leaders, saying Nigeria needs collective efforts from all sectors of society to achieve sustainable development and national progress.
