Tracka has raised concerns over the condition of Government Day Secondary School, Ebbo, in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, following a monitoring visit to the school on September 14, 2026.
According to Tracka's monitoring report, several classroom blocks had blown-off roofs, damaged or missing ceilings and exposed sections of the buildings.
The report also said desks and chairs were broken and scattered inside some classrooms, while others reportedly had little or no furniture. Debris and overgrown vegetation were also observed around the school premises, according to Tracka.
Tracka further reported that no students, teachers or other school personnel were present during the visit, despite schools reportedly having resumed two days earlier.
The monitoring organisation said the situation raised concerns about the functionality of the school and the learning opportunities available to children in the community.
Speaking on the wider education situation in the area, a commuter identified as Mustapha told Tracka that some parents were reportedly taking their children to the Federal Capital Territory in search of better educational opportunities.
Another commuter cited by Tracka identified shortages of teachers, poor school infrastructure and deteriorating roads as some of the challenges affecting education in the area.
Government Day Secondary School, Ebbo, is under the Niger State Ministry of Education.
Tracka said it would engage the ministry and other relevant stakeholders to seek clarification on existing plans or interventions for the rehabilitation of the school.
