Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are laying the foundation for a stronger Nigerian economy, urging women’s groups to help educate citizens on the policies and their objectives.
Idris made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja when a delegation of Women of Influence for Tinubu 2027, led by its National Leader, Hajiya Hauwa Farouk Ibrahim, paid him a courtesy visit at the ministry.
The minister described the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates as difficult but necessary measures to address longstanding economic challenges, improve public finances and create opportunities for sustainable development.
According to him, the reforms have increased the funds available to the federal, state and local governments for infrastructure development, the provision of essential services and the implementation of other development programmes.
“These are difficult measures, but they were taken in the interest of our country,” Idris said.
He urged the group to intensify public awareness campaigns by explaining the reasons behind the reforms, their objectives and the opportunities they could create for national development.
Idris also reaffirmed the ministry’s willingness to collaborate with organisations working to improve public understanding of government policies.
He accepted the group’s request to serve as its patron and pledged to appoint a liaison officer to facilitate coordination and cooperation between the organisation and the ministry.
Earlier, Ibrahim said Women of Influence for Tinubu 2027 was established to bring Nigerian women together and harness their leadership and influence in their communities to support national development and the Tinubu administration.
She disclosed that the group began its activities in Kano State and was expanding its outreach through digital platforms and community-based programmes to engage women and other Nigerians across the country.
Ibrahim thanked the minister for receiving the delegation and sought the ministry’s partnership in strengthening public awareness and engagement initiatives.
