Former Special Adviser on Political Matters in the Office of the Vice-President, , has revealed that his family spent nearly N175 million to secure the release of his nephew and three other kidnap victims after 37 days in captivity.
Speaking during an interview with Trust TV, Baba-Ahmed recounted that the victims were abducted last year and taken into a forest a few kilometres from their location, where they remained for over a month.
According to him, despite serving in Aso Villa at the time and reaching out to several top government officials and security channels, efforts to secure a rescue operation produced limited results.
He disclosed that his family provided authorities with information, including the location coordinates of the kidnappers, but the intervention did not lead to the immediate release of the victims.
Baba-Ahmed said the kidnappers initially demanded N25 million, three motorcycles, medications, rice and other supplies before negotiations progressed.
He added that by the time the victims regained freedom, the total amount spent by the family had risen to approximately N175 million.
The former presidential aide’s account underscores growing concerns over insecurity and the heavy financial and emotional burden many Nigerian families continue to face in securing the release of abducted relatives.
