President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned 10 newly completed residential quarters for Justices of the Court of Appeal in Katampe, Abuja, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary and safeguarding its independence.
Represented by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, the President described the project as a strategic investment in the rule of law and democratic governance.
Tinubu noted that a strong judiciary requires not only qualified judges and sound laws but also adequate infrastructure and a conducive working environment. He said providing secure and comfortable housing for judicial officers would enhance their welfare, boost productivity, and strengthen the justice system.
The President also called on state governments to increase investment in judicial infrastructure, stressing that supporting the judiciary is a shared responsibility and not solely that of the Federal Government.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said the provision of modern facilities for judicial officers reinforces, rather than undermines, the independence of the judiciary.
Similarly, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, described the project as a significant step toward improving the welfare of judicial officers and enhancing the administration of justice.
The commissioning comes a day after the inauguration of the new Court of Appeal headquarters in Abuja, highlighting the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen judicial institutions across the country.
