The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to building a stronger, more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria through the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at a world press conference ahead of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration in Abuja, Idris described the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s democratic journey, assess the impact of ongoing reforms and reaffirm commitment to national development.
The minister noted that this year's Democracy Day coincides with the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration, making it a significant moment to review progress made in governance, economic reforms and institutional development.
He praised Nigeria's 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, describing it as a major achievement that reflects the resilience of the country's democratic institutions and the commitment of Nigerians to democratic governance.
Idris also paid tribute to the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola and other pro-democracy activists whose sacrifices contributed to the restoration and sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, said the administration's economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms, were necessary measures aimed at creating fiscal space for investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education and social interventions.
According to Akume, the reforms are beginning to yield results and will deliver greater benefits to Nigerians as the economy continues to stabilize.
