The Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has restored food supplies to boarding students of the Comprehensive Arabic and Islamic School (CAIS), Minna, following concerns over the welfare of students at the institution.
The intervention followed a meeting between the Ministry and the school's management, after reports emerged alleging shortages in food provision for boarding students.
A verification visit to the school confirmed that various food items had been delivered to support students, while additional supplies, including bread and eggs for breakfast, are expected to arrive as scheduled. The next monthly food allocation is also expected to be delivered in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the administration and distribution of food supplies at the school.
According to findings by the Ministry, questions were raised over discrepancies in the number of boarding students presented for food allocation and concerns regarding the management of previously supplied provisions.
As part of the investigation, ministry officials have been directed to verify the actual number of boarding students and assess the utilisation of government-provided food supplies. The exercise is expected to include unscheduled inspections and further engagement with relevant stakeholders.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of students and ensuring that public resources allocated to educational institutions are properly managed and reach their intended beneficiaries.
