The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Minna and District Society, Mr. Ephraim Oryina Mue, has unveiled an eight-point agenda aimed at strengthening the accounting profession, promoting youth participation, and enhancing the society’s impact on national development.
Mr. Mue made the commitment during his investiture as the 9th Chairman of the society in Minna, Niger State, where he pledged to lead an administration anchored on inclusiveness, professionalism, integrity, and service.
The event attracted accounting professionals, government officials, captains of industry, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders from within and outside Niger State.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the occasion and Registrar/Chief Executive of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, described accountants as custodians of public trust and urged members to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct.
Professor Wushishi noted that professional bodies such as ICAN remain indispensable partners in promoting good governance and sustainable economic development.
Delivering the keynote address, the 61st President of ICAN, Mallam Haruna Yahaya Nma, called on members to embrace innovation, technology, and continuous learning to remain relevant in an increasingly dynamic global economy.
According to him, the accounting profession is evolving rapidly, requiring practitioners to develop new competencies and provide strategic solutions to emerging financial and governance challenges.
In a welcome address, the Commissioner for Finance, Niger State, Mallam Lawal Adamu Maikano, represented by the Accountant-General, Alhaji Saidu Abdullahi, and further represented by Alhaji Adamu Kuta, commended ICAN for its consistent contributions to strengthening financial accountability and public sector governance.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to collaborating with professional organizations in advancing prudent financial management and institutional excellence.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ephraim Oryina Mue outlined his administration’s key priorities to include Inclusivity and Member Engagement, Advocacy and Strategic Engagement, Institutional Branding and Collaborations, Community Service and Corporate Social Responsibility, Mentorship and Capacity Development, Technical Sessions and Continuous Professional Development, Gen Z Involvement and Youth Participation, as well as Integrity, Professionalism and Ethical Conduct.
He said the agenda was designed to deepen member participation, expand opportunities for young professionals, strengthen strategic partnerships, and enhance the visibility and influence of the district society.
Mr. Mue pledged to build a united and forward-looking society where every member’s contribution would be valued and where ethical standards would remain non-negotiable.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Vice Chairman of the Society, Mr. Hafiz Omonoyi, expressed appreciation to guests, members, sponsors, and stakeholders for contributing to the success of the investiture ceremony.
The newly inaugurated executive committee comprises Hafiz Omonoyi as Vice Chairman, Maryam Haruna as Secretary, Umar Alhassan as Assistant Secretary, Salihu Ndagi as Financial Secretary, Usman Abdulganiyu as Treasurer, Samson Faniyi as Technical Secretary, Babalola Ezekiel as Social/Publicity Secretary, Yewa Usman Shaba as Assistant Social/Publicity Secretary, Mustapha Mohammed Lemu as Immediate Past Chairman, Adamu Kuta as Ex-Officio I, and Kawu Alhassan as Ex-Officio II.
Highlights of the colourful ceremony included goodwill messages from distinguished personalities and professional colleagues, as well as a captivating cultural performance by the Tiv Cultural Band of St. Augustine, which added glamour and excitement to the occasion.
