The Peace Bridges and Community Linkages Initiative (PEBCLIN) has condemned the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Benue State Chapter, Ardo Risku Mohammed, describing the incident as a major setback to ongoing peacebuilding efforts in Benue State.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Abdullahi Shuaibu, the organisation said the late MACBAN chairman was widely recognised for promoting dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and unity among communities in the state.
PEBCLIN described his death as a painful loss to his family, the leadership and members of MACBAN, and all those working towards lasting peace in Benue State.
The organisation stressed that individuals committed to fostering peace and strengthening community relationships should be protected rather than exposed to violence, warning that attacks on peace advocates undermine efforts to build trust and stability.
PEBCLIN called on relevant security and investigative agencies to conduct a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation into the killing, urging authorities to identify and prosecute all those connected to the crime in accordance with the law.
The organisation also appealed to community leaders, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions or triggering reprisals.
Reaffirming its commitment to dialogue, mediation, and confidence-building, PEBCLIN expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, the leadership and members of MACBAN, the people of Benue State, and others affected by the incident, while urging Nigerians to continue promoting peace, justice, and national unity.
