The Senate of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBB University), Lapai, has approved the promotion of Dr. Ahmad Abdul-Gafar to the rank of Professor, following recommendations from the University's Appointment and Promotion Committee.
The approval was granted during the University's 109th Regular Senate Meeting held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, after the Senate considered and adopted recommendations that had earlier been ratified by the University Council.
Professor Ahmad Abdul-Gafar, of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, Faculty of Agriculture, was promoted after meeting the University's requirements for appointment to the professorial cadre. According to the University, the assessment covered teaching effectiveness, research output, scholarly publications, community service, and other professional contributions.
Presenting the promotion memo to the Senate, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, said the decision followed favourable reports from independent external assessors who confirmed that the academic satisfied the University's established criteria for promotion to the rank of Professor.
The University stated that the promotion takes effect from October 2025.
Congratulating the newly promoted professor, the Vice-Chancellor described the elevation as recognition of years of academic service and scholarly achievement. He encouraged Professor Abdul-Gafar to continue contributing to research, mentoring younger academics, and providing intellectual leadership within the institution.
Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman also reaffirmed the University's commitment to a transparent, merit-based promotion process, expressing confidence that the latest elevation would further encourage academic excellence and strengthen the institution's reputation for quality scholarship.
