The 36 state governors in Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to making Early Childhood Development (ECD) a priority in the country’s human-capital development agenda.
The commitment was announced at a North-West Zonal Consultative Workshop on Early Childhood Development, organised by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in collaboration with the World Bank, Human Capital Development initiative and the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
The governors stressed the importance of investing in children from pregnancy to age five, particularly in areas such as health, nutrition, early learning and school readiness.
The forum also called for stronger action by state governments, including improved funding, coordination and accountability, to ensure that ECD policies translate into practical programmes that benefit children.
The development applies to Niger State as one of Nigeria’s 36 states, although the report does not announce a specific new ECD programme for Niger State.
