IBB University Senate Expels Student Over Examination Misconduct, Orders Retrieval of Statement of Result

Decision follows findings of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct and the provisions of the University's 2024 Student Handbook.

The Senate of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, has approved the expulsion of a student of the Faculty of Arts over alleged examination misconduct and directed that the student's previously issued statement of result be retrieved.

The decision was reached during the University's 109th Regular Meeting of the Senate after members considered the report of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct, which investigated the case.

According to the Committee's report dated 22 July 2026, the student, identified as Alfa Hussaini of the Department of History and International Studies, was allegedly found in possession of handwritten materials relevant to the Islamic Interpretation of History (ISS 409) examination while writing the paper.

The report stated that the student admitted entering the examination hall with the handwritten material. The Committee further found that the material belonged to the student and that its contents were directly related to the examination. It also alleged that the student declined to complete the University's examination misconduct form when requested by invigilators.

The Committee noted that the student's statement of result had already been issued before the case was concluded.

Relying on the provisions of the 2024 Edition of the IBB University Student Handbook, the Committee concluded that possession of unauthorized examination materials relevant to an examination and refusal to complete the examination misconduct form are offences that each attract the penalty of expulsion.

Following deliberations, the Senate approved the Committee's recommendations, directing that the student be expelled from the University. The Senate also approved the retrieval of the statement of result that had earlier been issued.

The Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct was chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Aliyu Bello Mohammed. Other members included Professor Musa Amanabo, Professor Abubakar S. I. Gudugi, Professor R. O. Bukoye, Danjuma Alhaji Ibrahim and Adamu Isa, while Saratu H. Usman served as Secretary.
