Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed grief over the death of the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf Wushishi, describing his death as a significant loss to the commission, the Nigerian public service and the country.
The Minister's condolence message was contained in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabi'u Ibrahim, following the death of Wushishi, who was also the traditional titleholder of Talban Wushishi in Niger State.
Idris described the late NPC chairman as a close associate and a patriotic public servant whose commitment to national development was evident during his tenure at the commission.
According to the Minister, Wushishi began his tenure with a clear objective of conducting a credible population and housing census supported by modern technology, with the aim of generating reliable data for national planning and policymaking.
“His commitment to conducting a credible population and housing census using modern technology demonstrated his sense of national responsibility and determination to make a lasting contribution to Nigeria’s development,” Idris said.
The Minister commiserated with the Federal Government, the government and people of Niger State, as well as the Wushishi community, where the deceased held the traditional title of Talban Wushishi.
He also extended his condolences to Wushishi’s family, colleagues, friends and staff of the National Population Commission, while praying for strength for them to bear the loss.
Idris prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi.
