Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mohammed Ndarani, has called for stronger intelligence sharing and joint operations among security agencies and communities to tackle kidnapping and other forms of insecurity across Nigeria.
Ndarani made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Saturday, August 8, 2026, while reacting to the reported rescue of 308 kidnapped victims from separate incidents in Kwara and Niger states.
He said the scale of Nigeria’s security challenges required coordinated action by security agencies, local communities and citizens, particularly through the timely sharing of useful information.
Ndarani welcomed the rescue operation, describing it as a development that would provide relief to the victims, their families and the wider public.
He commended President Bola Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and the security agencies involved in the operation, and urged them to sustain efforts to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further abductions.
According to him, intelligence gathering should not be left solely to formal security institutions, as residents may possess information about suspicious activities within their communities.
He urged Nigerians to report credible security concerns to the appropriate authorities, stressing that stronger cooperation between citizens and security agencies could improve the prevention and detection of criminal activities.
Ndarani also called for the prompt and thorough prosecution of suspects arrested in connection with kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He said effective prosecution and appropriate punishment would help ensure justice for victims and serve as a deterrent to others who may seek to engage in similar criminal activities.
The lawyer further urged security agencies to build on the recent rescue operation and intensify efforts against kidnapping and rural criminality across the country.
The reported rescue comes amid continuing concerns over abductions in different parts of Nigeria. NAN also reported that 44 pupils and teachers abducted during a school attack in Oyo State were freed after spending more than 50 days in captivity.
The developments have renewed calls for improved intelligence coordination and stronger community involvement in efforts to address insecurity.
