The Nigerian Army says its troops have rescued 23 kidnapped victims and neutralised 19 terrorists during security operations conducted across parts of the country within the past 24 hours.
According to the Army, the operations involved intelligence-led raids, patrols and responses to distress calls aimed at disrupting the activities of terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements.
In Zamfara State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued 18 kidnapped victims in Sabon Gari, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, after responding to a distress call. The Army said the terrorists fled as troops arrived at the location.
In Kebbi State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA reportedly neutralised 18 terrorists following an attack on personnel of the Mobile Police Special Intervention Squad in Makuku, Sakaba Local Government Area.
In Plateau State, troops rescued a kidnap victim abducted from Duguri in Bauchi State. The Army also reported that troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE neutralised one terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle and two rounds of ammunition.
Troops also destroyed five motorcycles and recovered two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles during another operation in Plateau State, according to the Army.
In Borno State, troops of Operation HADIN KAI rescued five people who escaped from a terrorist camp in the Mandara Mountains following an internal conflict among the terrorists.
In Enugu State, troops recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines and 133 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition from a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in Umuchingu Ujenike forest.
Meanwhile, in Taraba State, troops arrested 19 individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities in Gashaka Local Government Area. Items recovered included motorcycles, water-pumping machines, mobile phones and cash.
The Nigerian Army said the operations form part of its continued efforts to use intelligence gathering, patrols and targeted raids to disrupt terrorist and kidnapping activities across the country.
