President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the August 15 governorship election as an indication that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory and expressed confidence in the mandate given to him by the people of Osun State.
Tinubu wished Adeleke success as he prepares to lead the state for another four-year term and urged him to unite the people of Osun regardless of their political affiliations or the candidates they supported during the election.
The President said the governor should focus on promoting growth, stability and social and economic development across the state.
Tinubu also commended the other candidates who participated in the election, saying their participation and adherence to democratic principles contributed to the strengthening of Nigeria’s democratic process.
He further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for their roles in the conduct of the election, describing the process as peaceful and credible.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, was declared the winner after polling 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes, according to reports citing the official declaration.
The Osun election was held on August 15, 2026, with Adeleke securing a second term in office.
