Four public projects valued at about ₦1 billion in Niger State have come under scrutiny following petitions by Tracka, the public accountability platform of BudgIT Foundation, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly.
Tracka Head, Joshua Osiyemi, reportedly wrote to the EFCC and the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Bamidele Salam, on August 19 and 20, 2026, requesting investigations into project payments and implementation.
The concerns are part of a wider review by Tracka, which identified approximately ₦13.86 billion across 90 projects nationwide using State Budget Implementation Reports and federal expenditure records accessed through GovSpend.
In Niger State, one of the projects identified is the ₦500 million construction of two classrooms and one office at JSS Dogon Kurmi in Tafa Local Government Area.
According to Tracka's project-tracking data, the project was reportedly disbursed in the fourth quarter of 2025 through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and is currently marked “Not Done.” Tracka's platform explains that project tracking is intended to allow citizens to monitor whether government-funded projects are implemented and to report concerns to relevant authorities.
Tracka is asking the relevant authorities to establish how the funds linked to the flagged projects were utilised, compare reported payments with physical project implementation and examine the procurement, contracting and payment processes.
The accountability platform is also calling for the recovery of any public funds found to have been misappropriated and prosecution of individuals or organisations found responsible after investigation.
