An 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba of Korawa Village, has been arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola over the alleged attack and serious injury of the presiding judge of Mayo-Ine Area Court in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to the Adamawa State Police Command, the incident occurred on August 31, 2026, while the judge, Hon. Dauda Hamman, was presiding over a case involving Garba and another individual identified as Ismail Yusuf.
The police alleged that Garba attacked the judge with a cutlass, repeatedly striking his hand and causing what the command described as grievous injuries.
Following the incident, Garba was arrested and subsequently arraigned on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt, contrary to Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.
The police said the charge was read and interpreted to the defendant, who pleaded guilty. Garba reportedly expressed regret over his actions and attributed them to the influence of the devil.
The court subsequently ordered that he be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearing.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, said the command would ensure that the case is diligently prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The incident remains before the court, and the allegations against Garba are subject to judicial determination.
