The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has urged leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across Niger State to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and help consolidate what he described as gains recorded since 2023.
Idris made the call on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in Abuja while receiving the chairmen of the APC across the 25 Local Government Areas of Niger State, who visited him on a solidarity visit.
The Minister said the party’s leadership at the grassroots had a role to play in sustaining the Federal Government’s reform agenda, particularly in the areas of the economy, security, infrastructure, education and human capital development.
He said the Tinubu administration inherited significant economic and security challenges when it assumed office in May 2023, arguing that subsequent reforms had created what he described as greater fiscal capacity for governments to undertake development projects.
> “All of us must join hands with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu so that he can consolidate on the gains that we have already achieved and put Nigeria on a sound economic footing,” Idris said.
Fuel Subsidy, Economy and Investment
The Minister attributed increased resources available to the Federal Government and state governments partly to the removal of the petrol subsidy, saying the funds could be channelled into sectors such as agriculture, roads, healthcare, education and youth development.
He also said the government’s economic reforms were contributing to renewed investor confidence and improving the ability of foreign businesses operating in Nigeria to repatriate their earnings.
According to Idris, the administration is also pursuing opportunities in agriculture, the non-oil sector and solid minerals as part of efforts to diversify the Nigerian economy.
Infrastructure and Education
On infrastructure, the Minister cited major federal projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, while stating that road construction was ongoing in different parts of the country.
Idris also highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), saying the scheme had enabled more than one million young Nigerians to access tertiary education by providing support for tuition and upkeep.
He said the Federal Government was also using regional development commissions as part of efforts to bring development closer to communities and address region-specific needs.
Security Progress
On the security situation, Idris acknowledged that challenges remained but said the country was making gradual progress towards restoring normalcy.
“Are we yet there? No. Do we still have challenges? Yes. But are we seeing a progressive journey towards the restoration of normalcy in this country? Yes,” the Minister said.
He urged APC leaders to remain united and resolve internal disagreements through dialogue, stressing that the party should maintain its focus on supporting the administration’s development agenda.
Idris said the progress recorded since 2023 should serve as a foundation for further achievements and called for continued support for the government’s reform programme.
> “Any attempt to take us back to those times of uncertainty must be rejected by all Nigerians,” he said.
Niger APC Leaders Commend Minister
In his response, the leader of the delegation and Chairman of the APC Local Government Chairmen in Niger State, Hon. Hashimu Izom, said the delegation visited to congratulate Idris on his appointment and commend his representation of Niger State at the Federal level.
Izom also praised the Minister for what he described as his efforts towards promoting unity in Niger State and supporting projects and initiatives benefiting the state.
He said the delegation was proud of Idris for representing Niger State at the national level and defending the policies of the President.
The meeting comes as political parties and their structures across the country begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APC leadership in Niger State reaffirming its support for the Tinubu administration, according to the statement issued by the Minister’s media office.
