Former Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Diseye Desire Nsirim (rtd.), has died after a brief illness. She passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, at a hospital.
The Niger State Police Command announced her death in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 22, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun.
According to the statement, Nsirim hailed from Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and served as the 27th Commissioner of Police in Niger State from 2012 to 2014, becoming the first and, according to the Command, only female officer to have served in that position.
During her tenure, she was involved in policing operations focused on maintaining law and order, crime prevention and public safety in the state.
The Police Command also identified the dismantling of the Darul-Salam group in Mokwa and the disruption of another terrorist group in Minna as among the notable security operations carried out during her tenure.
The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, on behalf of officers and personnel of the Command, expressed condolences to Nsirim’s family, relatives, colleagues and associates.
The Command described the late former commissioner as a dedicated police officer and public servant whose career was marked by service to the nation.
CP Elleman also acknowledged her contributions to policing and national security and prayed for strength for the family to bear the loss.
