Hajara Masaga Al-Hassan has declared her intention to contest for the Chanchaga Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Speaking while presenting her political ambition to the people of Chanchaga, Al-Hassan said her decision to seek elective office was driven by what she described as the need for more responsive, accountable and people-oriented representation.
She said her experience and interaction with residents had exposed her to challenges facing families, young people and women in the constituency, particularly in education, skills development and small businesses.
According to her, she has encountered families struggling with their children's education, talented young people with limited opportunities and women engaged in businesses who require additional training and support to expand their activities.
Al-Hassan said she was seeking election not merely to occupy a political office but to strengthen communication between constituents and their representative, including providing residents with regular information about activities at the National Assembly.
She also called for a system of representation in which elected officials remain accessible to constituents beyond election periods.
The NNPP aspirant said her priorities would include improving access to educational opportunities and supporting livelihoods and businesses, particularly among women and young people.
She acknowledged that political representation comes with public scrutiny and said voters should consider the candidate's previous contributions, experience and relationship with the community when making their choice.
Al-Hassan further said she would not promise to resolve all the constituency's challenges immediately if elected, but pledged to treat any mandate given to her as a public trust and to remain accessible to the people.
She also emphasised the importance of women's participation in decision-making, arguing that women have a role to play in legislative processes that affect the wider society.
The aspirant urged residents to view the office of a legislator as a public trust rather than personal property, stressing that elected representatives remain accountable to the electorate.
Al-Hassan's declaration adds to the political activities expected to intensify in Chanchaga Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She is seeking the House of Representatives seat under the NNPP, whose symbol is the basket of fruits and vegetables.
