President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed grief over the death of former Governor of the old Gongola State, businessman and elder statesman, Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, who died at the age of 90.
Tukur, widely known as the Tafidan Adamawa, was described by President Tinubu as a prominent national figure who made significant contributions to governance, politics, industry and business.
The late elder statesman served as Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) from 1975 to 1982 before becoming Governor of the former Gongola State in 1983.
He later served as Minister of Industries under the military administration of General Sani Abacha from 1993 to 1995 and held leadership positions in major companies spanning industry, agriculture, transportation and commerce.
In politics, Tukur served as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from March 2012 to January 2014. He also contributed to the promotion of trade and economic cooperation across Africa.
President Tinubu described the deceased as a visionary, generous and patriotic Nigerian whose counsel and fatherly leadership would be greatly missed.
The President extended his condolences to the Tukur family, the Fombina Emirate in Adamawa, the government and people of Adamawa State, as well as the wider business and political communities.
He prayed that Allah forgive the deceased's shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi, while granting his family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
