Namadi Appoints 17th Emir of Gumel

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel Emirate.

The appointment was announced on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, during a press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Dutse.

According to the SSG, the appointment followed consultations with the Gumel Emirate Council and kingmakers, in accordance with the provisions of the Jigawa State Emirate Council Law.

Ibrahim said the appointment takes immediate effect, following the death of the former Emir, to fill the leadership vacuum and ensure continuity, peace and stability within the emirate.

The new Emir previously served as Ciroman Gumel during the reign of his late father. The state government described him as an experienced and qualified successor with knowledge of the traditions, history and challenges of the Gumel Emirate.

Governor Namadi has called on sons and daughters of Gumel Emirate to extend their support and cooperation to the new Emir in the interest of peace, unity and development.

The SSG also disclosed that the governor would present the staff of office to the new Emir at a ceremony to be held in due course.

He urged traditional stakeholders and residents of the emirate to cooperate with the government to ensure a peaceful and successful coronation ceremony.

The government also prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Emir and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening traditional institutions across Jigawa State.
