Tanzania’s First Gentleman Hafidh Ameir Dies

Tanzania’s First Gentleman, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died.

Ameir died on Monday, September 7, 2026, while receiving medical treatment in Zanzibar.

His death was announced by Tanzania’s Vice President, Deogratius Ndejembi, who confirmed the passing of the First Gentleman.

Following the announcement, messages of condolence have begun pouring in from across Tanzania as citizens and public figures mourn his death.

Ameir’s passing comes as a major loss to the presidential family and the nation, with condolences extended to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, their children, the Ameir and Suluhu families, and the people of Tanzania.
