The Federal Government has declared June 29 to July 3, 2026, as National Learning Assessment (NLA) Week and will conduct its first nationwide learning assessment across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The assessment will be carried out in selected schools and will involve pupils in Primary 3, Primary 5, Junior Secondary School 2 (JS2), and Senior Secondary School 2 (SS2).
According to the Federal Ministry of Education, the exercise is aimed at measuring students' learning levels and gathering data to improve education policies and learning outcomes across the country.
The assessment will cover English Language, Mathematics, Basic Science and Technology, and Citizenship and Heritage Studies.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the exercise is an important step toward improving the quality of education through informed decision-making.
The Ministry clarified that the assessment is for evaluation purposes only and will not be used for promotion, placement, or certification of students.
