IBBU Law Faculty Holds First Mentorship Luncheon for Pioneer Students

The Faculty of Law, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, has held its maiden Mentorship Luncheon aimed at preparing pioneer law students for successful careers in legal practice, leadership, and public service.

The event, themed “Mentoring Excellence: Shaping the Future of Legal Practice, Leadership and Service,” brought together university management, senior legal practitioners, academics, and students for discussions on mentorship, integrity, and professional development.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Mohammed Aliyu Bello, described the programme as a landmark event in the history of the Faculty. He noted that the establishment of the Faculty of Law remains one of the university's major achievements and commended its leadership for laying a strong foundation for growth and academic excellence.

Professor Bello urged the pioneer students to take advantage of mentorship opportunities, uphold ethical standards, and pursue excellence in both their academic and professional journeys.

In his address, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Abdulmumini Bala Ahmed, said the luncheon was designed to bridge the gap between legal education and professional practice. He encouraged students to embrace integrity, discipline, and continuous learning, stressing that their conduct and achievements would shape the reputation of the Faculty for generations to come.

Chairman of the occasion and sponsor of the programme, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barrister Jonathan Taidi Gunu, called on the students to build their careers on mentorship, character, and excellence. Drawing from his years of legal practice, he emphasized that integrity remains the most valuable asset in the legal profession and urged the students to seek guidance from experienced professionals.

Other legal practitioners who delivered goodwill messages encouraged the students to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to excellence, expressing confidence that the pioneer class would produce future Senior Advocates, judges, and leaders in the legal profession.

The event featured an interactive mentorship dialogue, question-and-answer session, and networking opportunities for students and legal professionals.
