The Digital Security Ambassador Network (DSAN), Niger State Chapter, has inaugurated seven Local Digital Security Ambassadors as part of efforts to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and promote digital safety across communities in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Minna, the Director-General of DSAN, Abdulmalik Abdulaziz, said the ambassadors were carefully selected and trained to educate citizens on online safety, identify cyber threats, and encourage the responsible use of technology at the grassroots level.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at building a digitally secure society by empowering local representatives to serve as advocates of cybersecurity awareness within their respective communities.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for the Niger State Ministry of Homeland Security described the programme as a timely intervention that aligns with the ministry's vision of enhancing community security through proactive awareness and education. He noted that the initiative would help citizens better understand cyber risks, prevent online fraud, and encourage the prompt reporting of digital security incidents.
Also speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Niger State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency (NSITDEA), Hon. Suleiman Isah, emphasized the critical role of human awareness in combating cybercrime.
He observed that cybercriminals often find it easier to manipulate individuals than to penetrate well-secured digital systems, stressing that every citizen has a responsibility to safeguard personal and organizational digital assets.
Hon. Isah further reaffirmed NSITDEA's commitment to supporting cybersecurity awareness campaigns and strengthening collaboration with relevant stakeholders to create a safer digital environment across Niger State.
The event was attended by representatives of key security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and the Fire Service.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, a senior police official described the initiative as a welcome development that would enhance intelligence gathering and foster stronger cooperation between citizens and security agencies. He urged the newly inaugurated ambassadors to work closely with law enforcement agencies and extend awareness campaigns to markets, schools, motor parks, and rural communities.
Other representatives of security and law enforcement agencies also expressed support for the programme and pledged their commitment to collaborating with DSAN and the newly inaugurated ambassadors in advancing cybersecurity awareness throughout the state.
The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the oath of office on the seven ambassadors, who pledged to discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria while upholding professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
The event attracted representatives of government agencies, security organizations, technology professionals, media practitioners, and other stakeholders committed to promoting cybersecurity awareness and digital resilience in Niger State.
