The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has rejected the reported upward review of registration fees for examinations conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO), calling for an immediate reversal of the decision.
In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, NANS described the increase as a burden on Nigerian students and parents, especially amid prevailing economic challenges.
The student body expressed concern that the reported fee hike could make access to secondary school examinations more difficult for many students, particularly those from low-income families.
NANS also faulted what it described as a lack of consultation with student representatives before the alleged approval of the new fees, insisting that policies affecting millions of students should involve key stakeholders.
The association urged the Federal Ministry of Education to reconsider the decision and engage relevant student bodies in future discussions on education-related policies.
NANS reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the welfare and educational interests of Nigerian students nationwide.
