DHQ: Troops Kill 1,597 Terrorists, Rescue 1,516 Kidnap Victims in Six Months
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says Nigerian troops killed 1,597 terrorists and other criminal elements and rescued 1,516 kidnapped victims during military operations conducted across the country between January and June 2026.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Samaila Uba, represented by Group Captain Kabiru Ali, disclosed this while presenting the military's mid-year operational report.
According to the DHQ, the Armed Forces carried out 14,221 operations across land, air and maritime domains in various parts of the country, targeting terrorists, insurgents and other criminal groups.
The military also recovered 451 firearms, 16,726 rounds of ammunition, and 161 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and explosive materials, disrupting the operational capabilities of criminal groups.
The operations were conducted across Borno, Yobe, Taraba, Katsina, Kwara, Zamfara, Sokoto, Plateau, Benue, Niger, Oyo and Kaduna states, among others.
The DHQ further revealed that troops neutralised 412 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, arrested 332 suspected members of the terrorist groups, while 132 insurgents surrendered following sustained military pressure.
Additionally, troops successfully detonated and cleared 31 explosive devices and conducted 33 peace-building engagements alongside 13 public sensitisation programmes as part of efforts to strengthen security and promote stability nationwide.
