CREDICORP programme targets technology access for Nigerians, with 3MTT participants prioritised in pilot phase
The Federal Government has commenced the acceptance of applications for a digital device financing programme designed to help Nigerians acquire laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other technology devices through flexible payment arrangements.
The initiative, known as Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.), is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
The programme was officially launched in Abuja, where the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, said the scheme is intended to expand access to digital tools without requiring beneficiaries to make full payments upfront.
According to the organisers, the first phase of the programme focuses primarily on laptops assembled in Nigeria as part of efforts to support local manufacturing and increase access to technology for learning, work, and entrepreneurship.
To apply, interested Nigerians are required to visit the programme's application portal and submit relevant personal and professional information. Applicants are expected to provide details such as their state of residence, employment status, monthly income where applicable, preferred digital device, and the purpose for which the device is needed.
The application process also requires applicants to indicate whether they are enrolled in recognised digital skills programmes, including the Federal Government's Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative and other technology training platforms.
CREDICORP stated that the pilot phase of the programme is currently limited to participants of the 3MTT programme, with 1,000 laptops allocated for the initial rollout.
The corporation disclosed that the first batch of devices has already been distributed in Abuja, with 77 beneficiaries receiving laptops during the launch phase. Distribution is expected to continue for other eligible participants across different states of the federation.
Although the pilot phase is restricted to 3MTT participants, the application portal includes options for individuals enrolled in other digital training programmes such as ALX, Andela Learning Community, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa, Learn2Earn, and Genesys Tech Hub, indicating that future phases may be expanded to accommodate a wider range of beneficiaries.
Stakeholders in the technology and education sectors have described access to digital devices as an important factor in improving digital literacy, remote learning, innovation, and participation in Nigeria's growing digital economy.
The Federal Government said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to increase digital inclusion and provide more Nigerians with the tools needed to participate effectively in technology-driven opportunities.
