Niger State Governor and Visitor to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has commended the academic achievements of the institution's College of Health Sciences following its admission into the Consortium of African Medical Schools.
The governor gave the commendation during a meeting at the Government House in Minna, where the Vice-Chancellor of IBB University, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, presented the certificate confirming the college's admission into the continental consortium.
Governor Bago described the development as a significant milestone for the university and encouraged the management to sustain its academic standards. He also reaffirmed the state government's commitment to supporting the commencement of clinical training within the institution.
The governor noted that the temporary relocation of 300-level medical students to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, for clinical training should not be viewed as a setback, stressing that efforts are ongoing to strengthen medical education infrastructure within the university.
Speaking at the event, Professor Sulaiman said the admission announcement was made during the Conference of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine of Africa held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Vice-Chancellor attributed the achievement to the support of the state government and other stakeholders, noting that the collaboration between IBB University and Ahmadu Bello University was made possible through the backing of the university's Visitor and the commitment of relevant partners.
He also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their continued support toward the growth and development of the institution.
The admission of IBB University's College of Health Sciences into the Consortium of African Medical Schools is expected to enhance academic collaboration, strengthen medical education standards, and expand opportunities for research and professional development within the college.
