Foundation seeks support for orphaned and underprivileged students as philanthropist pledges assistance and school visit.
Philanthropist and community development advocate Salihu Isa Kantigi has been appointed Patron of the Madrasatu Sabilur Rashad Foundation, a faith-based educational and charitable organization that supports orphaned and underprivileged children in Minna, Niger State.
The appointment was announced during a visit by the leadership of the foundation to Kantigi, where they highlighted the institution's educational and humanitarian activities and formally requested his support and guidance.
Speaking during the visit, representatives of the foundation said Madrasatu Sabilur Rashad, located in the Madara area of Minna, provides Islamic education while also supporting vulnerable children through a foundation established to assist students who lack the financial means to pursue formal education.
According to the foundation, its intervention extends beyond Islamic studies to supporting beneficiaries in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions. The organization stated that it monitors students' academic progress, provides educational materials, and facilitates access to additional learning support where necessary.
Foundation officials also disclosed that several orphaned children under its care have memorized the Holy Qur'an, while others are pursuing studies in fields including Community Health and Pharmacy at higher institutions.
The delegation explained that the decision to appoint Kantigi as patron was informed by his reputation for supporting community development and educational causes. They expressed confidence that his involvement would strengthen the foundation's efforts to expand assistance to vulnerable children.
In his response, Kantigi thanked the foundation for the recognition and pledged his support for initiatives focused on education, religious development, and the welfare of children.
He said supporting religious and educational causes aligns with his commitment to community service, adding that he would personally visit the school to better understand its needs and operations.
Kantigi also requested a detailed list of orphaned children who still require support, including their educational and welfare needs, with a view to providing assistance and mobilizing additional support from other individuals interested in charitable causes.
He further noted that his personal experience of losing a parent at a young age has deepened his understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable children, particularly in accessing education and basic necessities.
The foundation expressed optimism that the appointment would open new opportunities for partnerships and support aimed at improving the lives of orphaned and disadvantaged children within the community.
